Jane Linley Thomas, a self-proclaimed child of the Universe, loves nothing more than spending time with her bestie, their 3 kids, friends and family. She loves loving people and has a soft spot for whiskey, wine and coffee as well as live music, hidden treasure, ink, gangster rap, shopping incense and sushi. Things that freak her out are chipped nail polish, gecko’s, wooden chopping boards and coriander. One of her passions is playing on the radio daily, Monday-Friday 12-3pm on East Coast Radio.
Adding to the line-up and returning for his second appearance is Terence Pillay, who has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning over 20 years in print, radio and television and has literally seen it all. He has worked as a presenter on shows like Good Morning South Africa, Free Spirit, Your Good Health and Front Row. For the past six years he can be heard on East Coast Radio in his, at times, controversial, no-holds-barred show The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and hosts In Conversation With Terence Pillay.
Third up, is Durban-born girl Shirdika Pillai. She is known for being the host of the mid-morning weekday show on Lotus FM: Life ‘n Style, and having been raised listening to Indian music, her passion and knowledge extends to her show. With years of experience in the radio broadcast industry, Shirdika has gone on to present for TV, and is the presenter for TV show, Sadhana: The Inward Path on SABC 3 which airs on Saturdays. Some of her achievements include a pair of MTN Radio Award nominations and SATMA nominations for her Saturday-night show Local Vocal. For her, animal rights; the dramatic arts; ancient history, travelling the globe and anything foodie related is close to her heart. She also enjoys a good read, a well-crafted movie, and is a self-confessed chocoholic.
Then there is Msizi James, East Coast Radio Weekend Breakfast show host, full of energy and zest, Msizi James is your shot-in-the-arm for weekend mornings. Passionate about KZN and life in general, Msizi oozes positivity and all-things-good. Music is everything to this trendy Durban social media junkie. He was a semi-finalist on SA Idols season 9! Like many of our presenters, he’s always had radio in his blood.
Also part of the celebrity line up is Phat Joe’s Producer a weekend breakfast co-host, Rory Petzer, who has been in radio for over nine years, having started out as a sports presenter at Algoa FM in Port Elizabeth while completing his studies, before producing the breakfast show at the same station. When he is not in the studio or standing in a queue for a double shot of cappuccino, Rory is a professional comedian, writer, entertainer and MC performing in and around KZN on a regular basis. He has performed at the Soweto Theatre and, recently, alongside the likes of Trevor Gumbi and Deep Fried Man. Happiest on a stage with a microphone in his hand, Rory has the comedic ability to move from a pub full of sailors to a formal corporate event, to a golf day without breaking a sweat. Rory’s humour can also be found on his satirical news website www.newsbyrory.com which averages over 1500 views per day, with one piece having notched up over 1, 5 million views.
Next up is radio presenter Pierre Venter-Maher, breakfast show host on Megazone Hit Radio, MC and wedding marriage officer. He specializes in entertainment and his accomplishments include playing for the Springboks’ Farewell party in SA before their World Cup Victory, MCing and DJing for a number of Richard Branson’s functions, as well as many other high profile events.
Last up on the celebrity front is Stephanie Saville, News editor for The Witness who has held this post for over nine years and holds the responsibility of which news finds its way into the daily publication.
There will also be something to keep the kids busy at the Junior Kids Zone. Boasting a kiddies cupcake area on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm, littlies will have the fun task of decorating their vanilla cupcake with tasty trimmings like silver balls, icing and other sweet niceties. Each cupcake purchased for R10 will see proceeds going to charity.
Muhammad Varachia, Centre Manager of Liberty Midlands Mall, said he was thrilled with the exceptional line up of top notch chefs from the area that will participating in the cooking demos. “We are thrilled with the caliber of celebrities and chefs, and are proud to announce that this year’s event is one foodie event that caters for everyone, especially the little ones who can now get themselves stuck in the junior kid’s zone and try their hand at dressing cupcakes,” Varachia added.
